Holiday Greetings from the BCA

Holiday Greetings from the BCA

The BCA Board of Directors would like to wish everyone a Joyous Holiday Season! Marking a return to normal, free of COVID restrictions, Beach Crew, made up of mostly novice rowers, came out to row with a strong fall season. The highlight of the fall was the Pancake Regatta.
The Pancake Regatta, hosted by the Beach Crew Alumni, was the best in its eight-year history, with seven universities competing. Boats from UCLA, UCI, LMU, SDSU, OCC, UCSB, and LBSU entered the 4,000-meter Head Race around Naples Island. Winning the Head Race for the Men was UCLA and the Women, OCC. The overall team winner, OCC, was awarded the Queen Mary Trophy. The Head races were followed by the 850-meter novice sprint races in Marine Stadium. The focus of the sprints is on getting that first competitive experience and having fun. Overall, the LBSU teams performed well and enjoyed the experience. The Lions Club made the day even better by preparing an outstanding pancake breakfast for the athletes and coaches, serving over 400 meals! To learn more about the regatta results and review the fall season go to https://www.beachcrew.org/category/articles/ and read the articles written by this year’s Emmet Smith Scholarship in Sports Journalism winner, Marissa Long.
Thank you all for helping build a strong Alumni Organization dedicated to building and maintaining a competitive rowing program at the Beach! Building an endowment to provide income to maintain the program will be a major effort for our group going forward. There is still time to donate to Beach Crew and receive a tax credit for 2022!
See you in the spring for a great season of racing, and have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
