GREEETINGS FROM THE BCA PRESIDENT
The LBSU Rowing team has kicked off the 2018-2019 season! Recruiting is in full swing with an outstanding group of prospects turning out to start rowing. Both the men’s and women’s team have a large number of returning rowers as well, and the coaches are looking forward to a great season ahead. This year, the BCA Board hopes to continue the momentum from last year to increase our BCA membership. If you know of former teammates who have not joined the BCA, encourage them to join! Be sure to put the Naples Island Collegiate Rowing Challenge (NICRC) to be held Sunday, November 4th, on your calendar!
LBSU ROWING GAINS PREFERRED ADMISSION
This month marked a major milestone for LBSU Rowing. The University has granted the team the right to offer Preferred Admission for qualified student / athletes who want row for Beach Crew. This benefit, combined with preferred registration now available to our rowers, our strong link to sports training programs offered by the kinesiology department, and our great boathouse with year-round rowing, position our team to be the most desirable Club rowing program in the country. Thank you to all the BCA members whose financial and moral support has enabled the program to achieve this. We look forward to seeing LBSU Rowing becoming a team to be reckoned with in collegiate rowing! If you know of any good high school seniors who would like to attend LBSU and join the rowing team, direct them to the Beachcrew.org web site. Applications for Fall 2019 begin October 1st so encourage them to contact the team prior to that date.
LBSU to add two new 4 man racing shells to fleet
The 60th anniversary celebration event was a big success and capped a very successful annual fundraising effort. The BCA is now in the process of buying two new four man racing shells for the team, one for the men and one for the women. These will be the teams’ first new boats in over a decade. After an extensive evaluation the selection committee Hudson as our manufacturer. Hudson is located in Toronto and is highly regarded for producing top flight racing shells and providing great customer service. The team is really excited and looking forward to racing in these boats next season. Plan to attend the BCA sponsored Naples Island Collegiate Rowing Challenge Regatta on Sunday November 4th to see these boats and take part in their dedication.
