Women’s Crew San Diego Crew Classic 2024

Our Women’s Crew participated in the Women’s DII/DIII Club Collegiate Novice 8+ Final 2000 meter race at The San Diego Crew Classic. They raced against 4 other crews, which included 2 UCSB boats, UC Davis, UCI, and SDSU. It was a clear day, and conditions were favorable with flat water. Our novice 8+ was located in lane 4. First-year rower and stroke seat Bailey Hartman stated, “The boat felt the best at the beginning; we were on point with our start, and I felt focused during that time.”

They had a great start and kept up with other crews. Our boat was neck and neck with UC Davis but lost energy and began lagging behind by the 1000-meter mark. Overall, the women’s crew finished in 6th, about 12 seconds behind SDSU, with a time of 9:32.334. UCSB won the race with a time of 8:05.157. Bailey Hartman stated that her biggest takeaway from The San Diego Crew Classic was “how much more work we have to put in to get better by WIRA, but I also learned how supportive everyone on the team is. We all had each other’s back and really leaned on each other. It was fun to bond with my team and make lifetime memories.”
