Men’s Crew Gruenburg Cup 2024

Beach Crew hosted The Gruenburg Cup this past weekend. Crews from San Diego State University and the University of Southern California attended to compete in the event. We had a handful of alumni show up for the race, including Donald Coplin, who was part of the first-ever Beach Crew in 1958.

Our Men’s Crew participated in two eights races, one novice race and one varsity race. The course was a total of 2000 meters. Both races had similar results, with USC finishing first, LBSU in second, and SDSU in third. The Men’s Novice was only around 15 seconds behind USC and almost 20 seconds before SDSU, with a total race time of 6:45.57. In the varsity race, the course was completed in 6:33.97, with USC 16 seconds ahead and SDSU 23 seconds behind. Even with the rainy weather, it was a successful event, with Beach Crew holding their own on the water.
