Beach Crew won undefeated in all 3 dual races at the 2024 California Challenge Cup in Newport Beach. The Men’s Crew competed in a mixed boat against varsity and novice boats on the 1400-meter course in Newport Harbor. The first dual was against UCI’s 2nd varsity boat. Beach Crew beat UCI by more than four boat lengths ahead and a time of 4:40.122. The next dual was with UCI’s novice boat. LBSU dominated them on the water with a time of 4:12.593, which was 30 seconds faster than the competing novice boat. The last race was head-to-head with SDSU’s mixed boat. It was a closer race than the last two with Beach Crew’s finish time at 4:39.717 and SDSU finishing at 4:56.634.

When asked about how the boat felt during the race, team Captain Alejandro Juarez stated, “Great at first with the starts and good in the middle, but a little wobbly towards the end when we picked up the rate.” Our mixed boat kept a high rate at the beginning of each of the races, settled the rate in the middle, and picked the speed back up near the finish line. Overall, the boys looked really smooth and calm out there on the water and we are very proud of their accomplishments. These results look very promising for Beach Crew’s 2024 spring season.
