Coach Michael Cervantes’ Weight Workout 

Coach Michael Cervantes has been stepping up the weights workout to challenge Beach Crew. Coach Cervantes is a recent alumnus of Long Beach State and Beach Crew. Last spring, he graduated with a Master of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition. He is currently a performance coach at First Step Fitness Training Center and an assistant coach at Beach Crew. Recently, he’s been focusing on weight training with the crew. He has great respect for Beach Crew and stated:

“It is a huge honor to be a part of the team as an assistant coach this season. While I enjoyed my time as an athlete, being a part of the coaching staff has brought even more fulfillment and excitement to me. The best part thus far has been the competitive spirit of the team. Seeing all members of the team working together but also challenging each other is vital to culture change and success.”

For at least three days a week, the crew has weight training with Coach Cervantes before going out on the water. Weight workouts are very important when it comes to rowing because creating a fit team makes a winning team. Both the Men’s and Women’s crew train together in sync during these workouts. He expressed that his goals for the intense workouts are, “to get our rowers in shape, they also serve as a test of resiliency and mental fortitude. We want to create powerful, injury-resistant, and athletic rowers that will assert their dominance in competition.” Coach Cervantes continues to be a crucial role model for Beach Crew and inspires our current rowers to be the best that they can be.
