Men’s Crew Spring Updates – Beach Sprints

Welcome to Spring Season!

Men’s Crew kicked off the sprinting season with Beach Sprints. The annual event was held at the Pete Archer Rowing Center in Long Beach on January 25th. This event was held in the erg room, where rowers competed against one another on a 2K simulation race. The erg racing began in the morning and ran till noon. Races were allocated for collegiate rowers in the morning, ending the day with masters rowers.

This was the first spring event for many of the Men’s Crew novices. As the erg room buzzed with excitement, the open weight novice event took place first. Sean Griley, a novice recruited in the fall, was the top athlete from this squad. His time was 6.22.9.

Varsity competed later with talent showcasing in the much anticipated lightweight race. For varsity, lightweight Christopher Cortez achieved the top performance with a time of 6.52.1.

Men’s crew looks forward to both these rowers’ efforts, and the efforts of the whole team, in future races. The next event will be the California Challenge Cup at Newport, February 29th.
