Women’s Crew Fall Updates: San Diego Fall Classic
This past weekend, LBSU Women’s Crew took a trip down to Mission Bay, San Diego for the annual Fall Classic on Sunday, November 10th. The 6000 meter-long head race day included three total races for the Women’s Crew.
With a few rowers out of the race with recent injuries, the Women still raced a Novice 8+, Novice 4+, and Varsity 4+.

Starting off at 9:10 am, the first race for the Women was the Novice 8+, cox’ed by Freshman Gabby Brodowski and stroked by transfer student Karrah Flores. Rowing in the Kiklas against crews from USC, USD, ASU, OCC, and SDSU, the boat came in fourth place overall, with a total time of 21:14, beating out crews from SDSU, OCC and USD. The race left the novice women hungry for a podium finish.
The Women’s second race was the Varsity 4+ in LBRA’s Earl Johnson, cox’ed by Junior Stephanie Mendoza and stroked by Senior Bianca Godinez. Thank you again to the Masters’ team and AC DuPont for allowing us to race in their 4+ boat. The Varsity Women finished in 12th with a time 25:23. The disappointing results have the Varsity Women more motivated than ever to train harder.
The final race of the day was the Novice 4+ at 11:20 am, cox’ed by Freshman Gabby Brodowski and stroked by Graduate student Cindy Tseng. The Novice Women finished with a time of 23:07. Unfortunately, they were the only entry in the event, leaving the Women eager for competition. Coach Megan DeVore is pleased with their performance, which would have them in the mix with Novice Men’s 4+’s racing that day.
Coming out of racing this weekend the Women’s Crew is ready to start ramping up training as spring season approaches.
