Beach Crew’s General Manager Announces Departure

After five years with the team, CSULB’s General Manager of Rowing, announced his departure at the end of the spring racing season. Brandin is relocating to Seattle, WA, to continue his career.

Brandin first came to CSULB in 2007. Brandin’s role as the General Manager has been a major part in operating the business affairs of the rowing programs at California State University, Long Beach. Working between several CSULB campus services and auxiliaries that support the rowing teams, Brandin took the lead on several projects that impacted the betterment and future of the team, including, obtaining a new fleet of chase boats for the coaching staff, overhauling the team’s presence online, and establishing in writing the team’s operating standard for the university.

Brandin’s rowing career started in 2006 as a walk-on athlete while he was attending Orange Coast College. While striving to make his way into the second novice boat, under novice coach Pat Gleason, his boat took victory at San Diego Crew Classic, the Newport Regatta, and the WIRA Championships. Brandin transferred to CSU Long Beach in 2007 to continue striving in the Lightweight Varsity 4+ boat. Brandin served as the President of Beach Crew’s Men’s Team in 2008 and was a key contributor to the formation of the Beach Crew Alumni Association that year.

“I never saw myself doing this job and it was worth every minute of it. I am honored to be a part of a team that has had such a long heritage and impact in this community. This transition actually started several months ago. I am happy to see the team where they are today. I cannot take full credit for everything we’ve done the past five years. It took a lot of effort between our stakeholders: the athletes, coaching staff, campus staff, alumni, and friends of the team. I am confident that our current staff is heading them in the right direction. I was only steering the course.”

Upon his departure, Brandin will continue his involvement with the Beach Crew Alumni Association as the Communications Chairman.

A replacement to the position has been selected by the Sports, Athletics, and Recreation Department, and will be announced in the coming months. Brandin’s involvement will continue through the summer.
