Winter Intersession & Beach Days with the Anteaters

The winter holidays are behind us, the team paid its annual respects to the RMS Queen Mary I, the intersession training has ended, and the athletes are in their final month of preparation for the spring racing season. During the month of February, The Beach spent a day on the water with ‘Eater Crew of UC Irvine in the waters of Newport Harbor.

Coaches Rob Edwards and Jeff Vreeland coordinated two joint winter workouts for the men, one in Newport, and one to be in Alamitos Bay later this week. Coach Danny Harris has the women working hard on land to improve the fitness of the athletes. Below is a little of what they’ve been up to.

The spring racing seasons kicks-off on Saturday, March 5, 8:00 AM, as CSULB takes its turn hosting the Annual SoCal Opening Day Regatta in Marine Stadium. The event will host men’s and women’s crews from UC Irvine, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, and University of San Diego. Come see The Beach take on these prestigious teams from around Southern California.

Beach Crew’s staff from campus has been assisting UC Irvine’s for the past year, keeping them afloat after their program was slashed from the athletic department in 2009. Beach Crew alumnus and former coach, Michael Long, stepped-up to fill-in a coaching vacancy this season, further defining Beach Crew’s impact with other teams around the greater Los Angeles Area. It’s an establishment that we are proud to honor and reach out for.
