Join Beach Crew

Come take part in the nation's oldest collegiate sport! Beach Crew is looking for new competitive rowers and coxswains to join our
nationally ranked teams. We compete with NCAA collegiate schools all over the state and across the
nation. Get ready to have an experience you will never forget.
Schedule
Our practices begin the first week of the fall semester. Throughout the year, practices will be held at our
boathouse, The Pete Archer Rowing Center,
from 5:30am to 7:30am, Monday through Friday. We recommend that each athlete register for classes that start on or after 9:00am to
avoid conflicts. Each day we spend most of the time in racing shells with focus on learning rowing technique.
In the fall we begin racing in November in what are called "head races" that range between 2 to 4,000 meters. Each crew starts alone
with competition in front and behind in a race against the clock. 4,000 meters typically takes a novice crew between 16 to 20 minutes.
Spring racing begins in February with our Alumni/Opening Weekend, which is the first weekend in March, with
UCSD, UCI, UCLA, USD, and USC. During our spring racing season all races are 2,000 meters, which take about 6 minutes. Our
regular rowing season ends in the middle of May and if we qualify, the ACRA championships are at the end of May.
Walk-ons
We are looking for men and women whoe are 6'0" or taller who are open to learning new sport and willing to work hard. We also are
looking for small athletes under 125 pounds to be coxswains. No experience is necessary. We will teach you how to row or cox a boat.
During your first season you will learn to row and compete with the Novice (beginner) team against other novice programs at other
colleges around the nation. For the first few weeks learn basic technique on our rowing machines. During that time we also begin
some basic fitness exercises.
College Transfers
We encourage jr. college athletes to consider CSU Long Beach as a great way to continue their academic and athletic careers.
Athletes interested in transferring to CSULB must submit the CSU Application for Transfer Admission along with the required
application fee, during one of the regular filing periods. Please see CSUmentor
for more information.
High School Rowers
Beach Crew is a great way to continue your rowing career on the collegiate level. Candidates should have the desire and
work ethics to be a contributor to our program. A strong understanding of technique and high level of fitness is expected. All
incoming freshman with experience may start on the varsity team in the fall semester. All rowers will be evaluated and assigned
to the crew they are deemed to contribute most to for the season.
All athletes with previous rowing experience coming on board to Beach Crew should contact the coach
to obtain the Varsity practice schedule.
Beach Crew is open to all CSULB registered students. Do be aware that all participants must be full time students
(12 units in the semester) with a minimum 2.0 grade point average.
We most certainly hope to see you soon! Please feel free to contact someone from the team if you have any
questions.
