About Beach Crew
The Long Beach State Rowing team (more commonly known as "Beach Crew") is a varsity club program that operates out of the Division
of Student Services' Club Sports and Recreation Department. The team is funded through Associated Students Inc. (ASI),
through the generous grants of the CSULB Foundation, and other donors such as the team's alumni. Beach Crew is the oldest athletic
program on campus, being founded in 1958. In 2008, Beach Crew celebrated their 50th anniversary by hosting the first Annual Beach Crew
Golf Tournament and Alumni Dinner at the Long Beach Yatch Club.
We are a fully recognized by the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) and the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA)
where we compete in each championship every year.
Our coaches are hired and approved by CSULB ASI who are accompanied by an assistant coach. Student-Athletes pay around $700-800 each year which includes
all expenses for participating.
The team practices six times a week for most of the academic year with morning practices on the water from 5:30 AM to 7:30 AM,
before 9:00 AM classes. Rowing machines (ergs) are located at the boathouse as well as on campus.
About 50 novice walk-ons join the team every fall semester having no prior experience with rowing. The team travels to regattas all
over the United States including Oklahoma, Philadelphia, Sacramento, San Diego, Washington and more. We encourage high school rowers
and college transfers to apply to CSULB and join our prestigious program.
Our boathouse is located just a few blocks from the school, the Pete Archer Rowing Center, in the historic Marine Stadium of Long
Beach, which served for the site of the 1932 Olympic Rowing competition, and the 1968 Olympic rowing trials. Marine Stadium was
recently designated as an official historic landmark for the State of California.
